Lain Van Ogle on Staats for 2015

Following the Chula Vista Hall of Fame Nationals last weekend, there is more than a super-size portion of team news coming down, leading into the Grands. Lain Van Ogle launched his A-Pro career in Chula, and did so with wins on Friday and Sunday (third on Saturday). As if that was not newsworthy enough, the team news thread and the Lain-turning-pro thread come together with a new team on tap for LVO in the new year.

The news came in a release by Staats Bicycles, and you’re seeing it first, here on News.

Twenty months after re-establishing Staats BMX and Ciari Parts as two of today’s leading design and performance BMX race brands, Staats Bicycles is proud to announce the acquisition of two of the sport’s most winning racers and promising new pros for the 2015 season, Lain Van Ogle and Trae Proctor.

Manufacturers of the new Bloodline race frames and complete bikes, Staats Bicycles—the iconic Southern California BMX bike manufacturer with a 20-year history sponsoring some of the sports’ greatest racers—looks to extend its winning heritage with Van Ogle and Proctor leading the Staats Factory Team, while many of the team’s current riders will make the move to green next season as part of the new Factory Ciari Parts Team.

Van Ogle nor Proctor are new to Staats President and Owner, Richard Huvard, who worked with both top national racers on the Huvard managed Redman/Yamaha Waverunner team of the early and mid 2000s where both were a pivotal part of that team’s multiple factory team titles.

Van Ogle’s race resume includes 10 National Age Group titles, 2012 Junior Men World #3, and 2011 Junior Men World #5. After an injury that sidelined him for half of the 2013 season, Lain rode to an impressive 4th in his first-ever Elite race this past May at Nashville’s Music City Nationals.

“I’m going with Staats because of the people behind it. I’ve been great friends with the Huvards over the past decade and truly believe in where they’re taking the company.”

Trae Proctor on Staats after long pause in BMX career
Proctor’s story, however, is quite different.
“I may have quit racing 10 years ago, but my dream of winning a national BMX title never went away. I watched the sport from a distance, watched guys I used to beat go on to win, and others go on to the Olympics. With college accomplished, I grabbed this chance at a comeback. I call it unfinished business, not only to accomplish my goals but to make up for my parents’ dedication to our racing when I was young”
—Trae Proctor.

It’s not exactly as if Proctor had to work to get back his completive edge. While at the University of Maryland, the Collegiate Track and Field star set conference and university records for the NCAA Division One school. And already, less than six months since his return to BMX racing, Trae is a favorite for his National Age Group and the National Amateur titles at the USA BMX Grand Nationals, this Thanksgiving in Tulsa, OK.

“Lain and Trae are both the future of American BMX racing, Olympic, SX and USA BMX Pro #1 hopefuls who represent the same winning and impeccable qualities that we like to call the Bloodline of Staats Bicycles and Ciari Parts. The fact that I’ve known both of these young men since they were kids winning NAG titles makes the story all the more meaningful for me. The fact that both are so fast makes it even more meaningful for our Factory Team Manager, Tommy Jacobs!”

— Richard Huvard

While Van Ogle will finish the 2014 season racing A-Pro for current sponsor Phoenix Bicycles, Proctor can be seen racing 19-27 Expert in the orange, green and black of Factory Staats.
